Marines are Professional Soldiers and weapons are the tools of their trade. From the time they enter boot camp they are reminded that first and foremost, all Marines are riflemen. The USMC Museum maintains collections of weapons reflecting this tradition. Muskets, swords, war trophies, experimental weapons as well as more modern examples of battlefield hardware are preserved by the Museum's professional staff. The scope of their collections spans the history of the Corps. From examples of the flintlocks used by Leathernecks as they stormed Tripoli to M1 Grands Marines used as they landed on the blackened sands of Iwo Jima, they have it all. Their collection includes automatic weapons, artillery, recoilless rifles, mortars, rocket launchers as well as a variety of battle trophies from their far-flung campaigns. On this page we hope to give you a little glimpse of their vast holdings. Unfortunately until they complete their new facilities most of the material here is still out of the normal public view. However, we are working on new displays and updating older ones all the time.
