American Legion Bowen Franklin Knox, Post #55 Fredericksburg and the Ladies Auxiliary sponsored a Blue Star Flag open house on Saturday May 21st, 2005. The Blue Star Flag was introduced during the First World War as a way the family or sweetheart of those serving in France could honor their loved one's). A proclamation from the Mayor of Fredericksburg, Dr. Tom Tomzak was presented by Post 55 and a representative of the Sons of the American Revolution to a representative of the Virginia National Guard. During the open house Post 55 and the Ladies Auxiliary present families, with loved ones serving in the Middle East, Blue Star Flags honoring their service. Our program included displays of Fredericksburg artifacts brought home by returning veterans from the wars of the 20th Century. A recruiter from the Virginia National Guard was present to provide information on their programs and the Legion and Auxiliary offered information on membership. |

Our program ran from 10am until 4pm. We were glad to have several distinguished visitors including State Delegate Mark Cole. The Mayor of Fredericksburg Dr. Tom Tomzak, Fredericksburg City Councilman Mat Kelly and a host of fellow Veterans. |
