The battles of October 8th and 15th had been pure infantry actions with special weapons and
artillery having little effect. The success was attributed to the unsurpassed acts of individual
bravery and leadership of both officers and men alike.

However, without the fog cloaking the movements of the assaulting waves on the 15th it is doubtful
a man would have made it across the Molleville Farm clearing alive.

Eight days of almost constant fighting had reduced the battalion to a mere skeleton of its former
strength. The report for the battalion the morning of the 16th stated:
