As the war in Europe ground to a standstill with thousands dying in the mud the 29th boarded
trains and marched into a wilderness in Alabama which they would soon turn into Camp McCellan.

Here they would undergo instruction in the “Art of Trench Warfare” as well as the latest infernal
machines of the new technological war.

winter quarters during the 1917-1918 winter.
